There are so many gadgets out there that can help you! Some gadgets are even super cheap! The first step is identifying what it is that you struggle with, what stresses you out, what do you avoid, what causes discomfort, either physically or mentally. With all of the distractions surrounding us every day, it can take a lot of focus to look inward.
For example, I recently realized that I hated making dinner…now that may sound obvious to some people, making dinner can be a real chore. However, it was more than a chore for me. The pressure of deciding what was for dinner would elevate my stress level and make me grumpy. I was also not creative with meals and could never be sure that I had the right ingredients on hand, therefore causing more anxiety. This seems trivial as I write it, however, it took me about 15 years to realize that this task really takes a toll on me. Whereas cleaning, laundry, yard work, etc. does not. I finally decided that there are solutions out there and I subscribed to “Hungryroot”. It was the best decision I’ve made in a long time. However, the point that I am trying to make is that self reflection is hard. Please look inward and try to find simple solutions to your struggles. Not just great to place where you sit in the shower, but also great if you need the shower head to be in a certain place i.e. where you shave your legs, beside you-so you don’t have to twist as much, waist level-so you don’t have to reach so high. 2) Accessible Hangers - 7$
Although this is marketed toward wheelchair users, it is also great for everyone. This gadget can significantly increase the space in your closet. It’s also handy for people who have trouble reaching the closet bar if it’s too high.
3) Levered Handle - 19$
There is a reason this is the universal design door handle of choice. Not only does it look beautiful, but it is easy to install and much easier to use than other traditional handles. If this was on your door, you could open it with your elbow, chin, or even your foot if needed (I’m visualizing the scene when I carry lots of grocery bags).
4) Rocker Switch with Dimmer and Backlight - 19$
Most of us don’t pay attention to our light switches, however, if they are not working properly, they are the worst! Good news, they are super cheap to swap out. If you want an upgrade, I would choose a rocker switch of any kind. They are universally designed to be easy to use, similar to the levered handle, you can pretty much use any body part to turn the light on or off. I like the dimmer feature in case you have specific lighting needs and the backlight to help guests locate the light in the dark.
